557th Weather Wing

557th Weather Wing Shield  The mission of the 557th Weather Wing is maximizing America's power through the exploitation of timely, accurate and relevant weather information anytime, everywhere.

The 557 WW delivers worldwide weather products to Air Force and Army warfighters, unified commands, National Programs and the National Command Authorities. In addition, the wing provides twenty-four hour technical assistance on all standard weather systems and equipment.

Each day, the wing's dedicated men and women build the world's most comprehensive weather database of observation, forecast, climatological, and space weather products available on the World Wide Web.

The wing is focused on developing, evaluating, testing and transitioning new technologies to weather teams around the world.

 

 

 

1st Weather Group

The 1st Weather Group is comprised of six operational weather squadrons providing timely, accurate and relevant weather operations around the clock in support of joint warfighters worldwide.  Each squadron produces decision-quality forecasts and weather threat assessments for aviation and ground forces tasked to fulfill specific geographic combatant command, service component and international partner operations.  The 1 WXG also includes Operating Location Kilo, which is responsible for management of the Department of Defense's portion of the Next-generation Weather Radar program.  OL-K works alongside National Weather Service and FAA professionals to engineer, maintain and sustain over 160 Doppler radars worldwide as part of a tri-agency agreement with the Department of Commerce and Department of Transportation.

2nd Weather Group

The 2nd Weather Group delivers timely, relevant and specialized terrestrial, space and climatological global environmental intelligence to Joint warfighters, DoD decision-makers, national agencies, and allied nations for the planning and execution of missions across the complete spectrum of military operations through the operation, sustainment and maintenance of Air Force Weather's $277M strategic center computer complex, production network, and applications.
