  • Machine Learning Opportunity for Global Weather Radar

    This is the first of a three-part series covering the innovative work by 557th Weather Wing for ongoing development efforts to leverage machine learning for a weather radar depiction across the globe, designated the Global Synthetic Weather Radar. Research and development on the GSWR started when Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory combined weather data from existing sources and applied machine-learning techniques to create synthetic radar-like mosaics in areas just offshore of the continental United States with no radar coverage.
  • 1st Weather Group holds change of command

    The 1st Weather Group welcomed a new commander during a socially-distanced ceremony July 24, 2020, in the Chief Master Sgt. Peter Moore auditorium. As part of the ceremony, Col. Travis Steen relinquished command of the 1st WXG and Col. Bradley Stebbins assumed command. The ceremony was officiated by Col. Patrick Williams, 557th Weather Wing commander.
  • 557th WW Airmen find innovative cyber solutions

    Innovation is more important than ever. The 2018 National Defense Strategy has called for rapid innovation and to “deliver performance at the speed of relevance.” 557th Weather Wing Airmen have a history of finding ways to innovate, working smarter to save money and deliver new capabilities and their efforts are benefiting the Air Force Weather community and the Air Force at large.
