Even with freezing temperatures, the spirits of the 25th Operational Weather Squadron were unaffected during the Desert Lightning Team annual awards ceremony Feb. 5 held at the Mirage Club here.

Inspired by the frozen pipes across base, the refrains of Vanilla Ice's, "Ice Ice Baby," floated through the air as the 25th OWS annual base award nominees were announced by category: Airman, Senior Airman Marlyn Daust, who is deployed; Non-commissioned Officer, Tech Sgt. Amber Tarver; Senior NCO, Senior Master Sgt. Gabriel Lacayo; Company Grade Officer, Capt. Robert Davenport; Intermediate Civilian, Stephen Bieda; and Senior Civilian, Harry Walker.

After dinner, a brief presentation about the duties of the deployed nominees was narrated by Airman 1st Class Thomas Schuler of the 25th OWS.

The guest speaker, the eleventh Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force David Campanale, was highly impressed with Airman Schuler presentation. Throughout his speech, he lauded Airman Schuler and held him up as an example of the excellent Airmen serving in today's Air Force.

Chief Campanale praise was even more profound, considering Airman Schuler was "... just a weather guy."

The evening concluded with the announcement of the winners, with Mr. Bieda's selection as the Associated Unit Intermediate Civilian of the Year.
