Colonel Joseph Coughlin is the Commander, 557 Weather Wing, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. He leads 1,400 Airmen at 19 worldwide operating locations, conducting global weather operations to meet enduring and emerging requirements for all 11 Combatant Commands. The wing’s 12 squadrons converge with other Information Warfare units and their capabilities to create advantage through novel operational outcomes for Combatant Commanders and their component commanders across the spectrum of conflict.
Colonel Coughlin graduated from Tolland High School, Tolland, Connecticut, attended Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont and was commissioned upon graduation through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2000. He has served in a variety of operational and staff assignments at the Detachment, Squadron, Group, Major Command, Headquarters Air Force and Secretary of Defense levels. His most recent command assignment was as the 8th Mission Support Group Commander, Kunsan Air Base, South Korea…the famed “Wolf Pack”.
Prior to this assignment, Colonel Coughlin was Deputy Dean of Admissions and Business Operations at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, Honolulu, Hawaii. He led all business and support operations with a team of 70 joint service personnel providing finance, information technology, security, protocol, supply and infrastructure needs in executing security outreach courses for military and civilian students from around the globe.
